Yes, this blog is about Spoken Word poetry and how much I love it. Spoken word poetry has been best defined by poet Sarah Kay in her TED talk. She says that spoken word "is the art of performance poetry. I tell people
it involves creating poetry that doesn’t just want to sit on paper, that
something about it demands it be heard out loud or witnessed in person.”Something about this genre has caught my attention and I've been hard-pressed to think of a day where it hasn't entered my thoughts and effectively my conversations. So, I realized that I needed to start writing about it; not only as a way to maintain my sanity and collect my vast array of thoughts on the subject, but also to share with others the joy I've found within the art form.
My name is Danielle Altrogge and I am a poet and academic. If I can somehow manage it, I would love to spend my life talking about poetry. I am from the city of bridges and have recently decided to take up hula hooping. I love poutine and dancing.
